Replacing an appliance or specialty bulb

Use the appliance instructions to narrow the search.

Find the appliance model

For an oven, refrigerator, range hood or other appliance, start with the appliance model number and its replacement-parts guidance. A bulb that has the right base can still be unsuitable for the appliance’s heat, vibration or other conditions. Save the specified bulb or replacement-part details before opening product listings.

Copy every relevant marking

Record the original bulb’s voltage, base, wattage and dimensions. Check whether the manual specifies a particular bulb technology or part number. Photograph the fitting if it is accessible under the manufacturer’s replacement instructions. When comparing a replacement, look for explicit support for that appliance use instead of relying on a broad specialty label.

Treat ovens as a distinct purchase

A general household LED is not automatically suitable for an oven. Follow the appliance maker’s specified replacement and temperature requirements. If a marketplace listing does not clearly match those requirements, use the manufacturer’s parts information to resolve the uncertainty before buying. The same approach helps with unusually small fittings and concealed appliance lights.

Keep the replacement details

After a correct replacement, keep the part number with the appliance manual. Note the supplier and purchase date so future shopping starts with a known specification. Follow the appliance instructions for access and replacement, including isolation and cooling steps. If access requires repairs or the fitting is damaged, seek appropriate service.
